Adaptive Re-use of Community Centres

What is the Adaptive Re-Use of Community Centres project?

There are currently three ice rink facilities in the municipality that are underutilized and the Township has reduced operation funding. Through past review, it has been recommended to and endorsed by Council that the two underutilized ice rink facilities remain community spaces but potentially undergo a change in use moving forward. This is to meet the diverse needs of the Township residents.

What is Adaptive Re-use?

Adaptive re-use is the process of taking an existing structure and updating or changing it for a new use or purpose. Adaptive re-use can maintain features of the original building such as main structure, floorplan, roof, or interior finishes.

Next Steps:

Final Recommendations

  • The project team is in the process of developing a “What We Heard” summary that compiles feedback received throughout the engagement process and provides adaptive re-use recommendations based on community input.
  • Final recommendations will be provided to the Township for decision on implementation by the end of April.
  • Final recommendations will be made available to the public on this webpage following Council review.
