Public Works & Environmental Services
The goal of the Public Works is to provide a safe and efficient transportation network through the implementation of a preventative maintenance program that is designed to enhance the life span of the road systems. In addition, to provide an effective capital works program that is designed to provide the most benefit to the community as a whole and eliminate hazard for the traveling public.
Public Works is responsible for the maintenance of 335 km of gravel, surface treated, and paved roads. Maintenance operations would include winter control, grading & gravel resurfacing, dust control, patching, sweeping, brushing, ditching and culvert repairs. Capital assignments falling under the Department include the administration of contracted paving and surface treatment projects as well as truck and equipment purchases.
The Public Works Department also oversees contract management for the operation of its three drinking water systems and one wastewater system. The Department operates its landfill site and administers curbside waste and recycling collection contracts.
