The Whitewater Region Municipal Emergency Control Group (MECG) met today to review current and forecasted conditions, including the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Bulletin - Flood Watch (April 26, 2024). As a precautionary measure, the Township has made available pre-filled sandbags at the Westmeath Public Works Garage located at 1798 Westmeath Road and will revisit additional mitigation measures in the next 48 hours. If additional sand or sandbags are needed, please contact the Township:

We remind residents who have been affected by high water and flow conditions in the past should take necessary action to protect/secure any vulnerable property in proximity to rivers and lakes and closely monitor developing conditions and regularly check for updated messages.

Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board

The Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board issued a Press Release on Sunday, April 14, 2024, stating the following:

"The Ottawa River Regulating Committee would like to inform watershed residents that levels and flows along the Ottawa River have begun increasing due to increasing spring runoff. It cautions residents along the shores of the Ottawa River from Mattawa down to the Montreal Region that throughout the spring freshet period water levels can rise rapidly at times and cause minor flooding in low-lying areas."
