Mission Statement

The Township of Whitewater Region Fire Service protects the lives and property of the citizens of and visitors to the Township.

Vision

1. That the Township of Whitewater Region assume a leadership role as an employer within the community in supporting its employees and other employers’ employees participating as volunteer firefighters including during normal business hours;

2. That the Township of Whitewater Region prioritize the delivery of ongoing health and safety training for all members of the fire department;

3. That the Township of Whitewater Region endorse the optimization of the first two lines of defence; including public education and prevention and the utilization of fire safety standards and enforcement, to provide a comprehensive fire protection program within the Township; and

4. That the Township of Whitewater Region endorse strategies that support the sustainability of fire protection services that provide an effective and efficient level of fire protection services resulting in the best value for the community.

Services

The Whitewater Fire Department provides public education services as well as fire prevention activities; including request and complaint building inspections. Other fire protection services consist of fire suppression to all occupancies, including; residential, commercial, business, institutional, and industrial. The Whitewater Fire Department is a member of Renfrew County Mutual Aid and provides heavy rescue auto extrication services in the southern portion of the county.

Burn Permits

The Township of Whitewater Region allows the use of outdoor fire pits and open air burning with the issuance of a permit from the Township Office in Cobden. Burn permits are valid for a year but must be renewed once every two weeks. If you have not already filled out a burn permit application, you can do so by requesting one at the Township Office in Cobden. If you have already filled out an application for this year, you can renew the permit by calling 613-646-2282.
